  1. Mōrena Mehakpreet,

Well done for telling us what you favourite Māori waiata is. Maybe you could find the lyrics for the song and upload them to this blog post; it just looks pretty lonely up there is all! Also, so that I can award you with full points, can you please tell me why you like Kia Paimarie?

My favourite waiata is Paikea. The song is about a Baleen Humpback Whale that can grow up to 16 metres wide— that's massive! The song is attached to two Iwi on the East Coast: Ngāti Porou and Ngāi Tahu. I don't belong to either of these Iwi, but I grew up on the East Coast so I sung Paikea a lot in school. I love the waiata because it has great rhythm and excellent harmonies.

Don't forget to tell me why you like Kia Paimarie, and I'll be able to reward you with full points.

    Keep up the great work!

    Cheers,

    Jordan

  2. Good morning Mehakpreet!

Awesome to see you actively blogging! Thanks for sharing your favourite waiata! I don’t think I’ve heard that song before, could you tell me a little bit more about it? I would love to know what the song means.
My favourite would be Poi E, I first heard this song on the News for the first time when it was making a comeback in 2010 for featuring on the movie Boy. I love this song because its super catchy and sounds incredible when sung with a large group of people. I performed this song in my Kapa Haka group at school when I was younger. It was really difficult learning a basic poi routine to perform at the same time, but we got the hang of it eventually.
