Day 5 activity 2

Yusra and her older sister went on a dangerous journey to find peace and safety in Europe.  They travelled through Lebanon through Turkey.

While sea crossing, the boats engine failed.  As an amazing swimmer Yusra thought that she will not let any of the passengers drown.  So Yusra, her sister and two others dived into the wavy water and swam for 3 and a half hours in oped water to save twenty peoples lives.

A year later, Yusras strength, her confidence and swimming skills were seen by the international Olympic Committee and then she became a member of the first ever Refugee Olympic games in Rio in 2016.  Representing 65 million displaced people.

She was really good and got lots of rewards and was in magazines and met lots of world leaders, for doing work and lots more.

Yusra now lives in Berlin and is concentrating on her big career and her swimming skills.  Her goal is to be in the next Olympic games in Tokyo in 2020.  She tries to give everyone hope with her lovely messages.

For SLJ we had to read a story and rewrite I thought this was a bit tricky but it got easier as we went through.

  1. Kia Ora Mehakpreet,

Well done for writing a good recount about Yusra’s tough journey. She was very brave during her journey, wasn’t she. I know she must be working very hard at the moment training everyday in the hopes of qualifying for the Olympics in Tokyo later this year. Do you enjoy watching the Olympics? I do! I love watching hockey and gymnastics events. As well as any event that New Zealand is competing in!

    Blog ya later,

    Dani
